Octavio A. Verdeja, Jr., CPA, has 30 years of experience in public accounting. Previously employed by Ernst & Young, Octavio is currently the Managing Partner of Verdeja & De Armas, LLP.

Octavio has specialized in the not-for-profit and school industry with clients such as local museums, art centers and children’s organizations. Octavio has become a leader in the audits of schools in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe Counties, where he currently audits large schools including charter, private and not-for-profit schools.

Octavio has been involved in the real estate development industry for over 20 years. His clients include some of the largest developers in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Octavio has performed many audits for condominium and homeowners associations.

During his career, Octavio has been called upon to provide expert testimony in litigation cases including divorce, wrongful death and high profile political cases.

In 1979, Octavio earned his accounting degree from the University of Miami where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. In 1981, he was licensed as one of the youngest CPA’s in the State of Florida.

In 2005, Governor Jeb Bush appointed Octavio Chair of the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe. In 2009, Governor Crist reappointed him. Octavio is a member of the University of Miami Citizens Board and past-Treasurer of the University of Miami’s Cuban Collection. He is a member of both the AICPA and the FICPA and has been a guest speaker at the University of Miami Center for Non-Profit Management.

Pedro M. de Armas

Pedro M. de Armas - Audit Partner

Pedro M. de Armas, CPA, serves as a Partner in Verdeja & De Armas, LLP’s Audit Department. Pedro is responsible for overseeing the audit team and maintaining the firm’s quality standards in each engagement.

Pedro has more than 15 years of public and private accounting experience. He joined the firm in 1995 and was promoted to partner in 2001. He was recently honored as Top "40 under 40" by the CPA Technology Advisor Magazine. Click here for full article.

He has experience in the agriculture and aquaculture industries as well as a specialized interest in nonprofit organizations, including assisting in the creation and formation of the organization and ultimately in conducting the financial statement audit.

A graduate of Florida International University (“FIU”) with a Bachelor of Accounting, Pedro received his Master of Accounting degree in 2000 from FIU. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a member of the Cuban American Certified Public Accountants Association and served as the Vice President during 2001-2002.

Pedro’s civic involvement includes serving on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Miami-Dade County and as past Co-Chair of the United Way Community Investment Committee and past Co-Chair of the Agency Audit Committee. His responsibilities include performing an analysis of the nonprofit agency’s annual financial statements and providing guidance and recommendations to improve and alert the United Way of the financial condition of the nonprofit organization.

Octavio F. Verdeja - Founder

Octavio F. Verdeja Sr., CPA, is the founding partner and presently a member of the firm and has over 40 years of public accounting experience. He was previously employed by Ernst & Young.
 
Octavio has specialized in the healthcare industry and has extensive experience in Medicare and Medicaid cost reporting for hospitals, nursing homes, ACLF’s and other healthcare organizations.
 
In addition, Octavio has been an Investment Advisor for the last 10 years. 

Octavio served on the Children’s Trust Governing Board of Miami-Dade County and served as their past-Treasurer. He has been involved with the community extensively including:

  • Chairman and Past President of the United Way of Miami-Dade County
  • Past President of the Health Systems Agency of South Florida
  • Listed among the 100 most influential Hispanics in the United States
  • Miami-Dade Foundation – Past Board Member and Present Advisory Board Member
  • Received the “Brotherhood Award” from the National Conference of
    Christians and Jews
  • Founding Board Member of the Miami City Ballet

Octavio earned his accounting degree from the University of Miami and shortly thereafter became licensed as a Certified Public Accountant. He is a member of the AICPA and FICPA.
